In 1982, The Nature Institute held its first Discovery Day Camp at the Olin Nature Preserve. The camp was the result of hard work on behalf of dedicated volunteers and funding from Aune Nelson, who believed that children should learn about nature so they would grow up knowing the importance of protecting nature. The Lodge facilities include: a hands-on, interactive Great Room, two classrooms, John Madson Memorial Library including computers, wraparound porch with picnic tables, campfire ring, bathrooms, kitchen and outdoor classrooms; ponds, woods, prairies, and streams.
