Teen Leadership builds conscious young adults, through teamwork, problem solving, community stewardship, and teaches canoeing and backpacking for ages 14-17. Spend 2 or 3 weeks with peers and counselor mentors, learning and growing together through adventures!
Leadership One, River Explorers: a two week program focused on building self-confidence in young teens through group challenge and skill-building activities to help them find the leader inside themselves. Includes a 5-day, 4-night canoeing and backpacking trip through the Ducktrap Watershed in Lincolnville/Northport, from freshwater to the ocean, where they practice wilderness skills, learn about the local ecology and form friendships through adventure.
Leadership Two, Mountains to Sea: a 3-week program which builds on the growing independence of young leaders and the role positive mentoring plays in self-development. Includes 2 backpacking and canoeing trips, the longest over 8 days from a mountain top in Montville, Maine to the ocean in Port Clyde. Gives teens the opportunity to practice their skills as leaders on trip, through service learning projects, and in our residential camp. This is one of Tanglewood’s most popular and remembered programs.
Leadership Three, Appalachian Adventure: the final “camp” program for teens, this 3-week program includes first aid certification and an 12-day backpacking trip through the “100 mile wilderness” along the AT, cumulating at Mt. Katahdin in Baxter State Park. Back at camp teens have the opportunity to mentor younger residential campers.
