  • With hands-on research opportunities in multiple fields, the Research in Science & Engineering (RISE) Internship track provides students an opportunity to explore, in depth, the many facets of university laboratory research. Take some time to peruse the faculty profiles on the departmental websites of your interest through the links above. Not only will these profiles give you a sense of the exciting research going on at Boston University, but you will be able to identify professors whose research interests match your own. In this six-week program, academically motivated rising seniors conduct research for 40 hours per week under the guidance of a faculty member, postdoctoral fellow, or graduate student mentor. RISE Internship students tackle a research project and acquire valuable technical and analytical skills, culminating in the RISE poster symposium. In some cases, research interns submit their work to national science fair contests such as the Siemens Competition and the Intel Science Talent Search. Throughout the six weeks of the program, students participate in weekly workshops with the RISE Program Manager, who provides insight into the scientific process, research ethics, how to read a research paper, how to make a poster, and how to network in the scientific community. There are also sessions on college admission strategies and pre-professional health programs built into the experience.
